What Our Students Say
At DCU you can empower yourself
with the skills and knowledge you need
I definitely recommend the course. I joined the Pre-sessional University Pathway course this summer and it has been spectacular. I learnt a variety of useful skills and tools that I will put in practice when taking my master’s degree at DCU. I feel much more confident to succeed and achieve my goals after taking the course. People behind this program are looking after you, you can contact them for any assistance needed. ''”
"It was a pleasure to be part of this incredible programme. I had the opportunity to improve my speaking skills in business and share knowledge with people from all over the world. The teachers were highly didactic which made me feel confident to overcome my difficulties and awkwardness. Learning about cadence and body language built on my fluency.”
"I really enjoyed learning about Japanese culture and meeting new people. We talked about cultures, music, fashion, nature, language, and such. It was a very enriching experience, to speak about these topics with people from Japan. I am so grateful that I will be able to stay in contact with them as I would like to learn more.”
"The mixture of high-quality teaching and interacting with other students from different cultures motivated me and allowed me to achieve my learning goals.”
''Learning a new language is a process. Here you have to read, speak and listen 24/7. You really have do study abroad if you want to improve your English level.”
''I like the teaching methods here. Most importantly, I had a very good teacher who helped me to deal with all the problems of the language.”
''It's been a while since the last time I spoke in Spanish. It's a brilliant thing when you need to improve your English.”
I chose DCU because I wanted to study in a university with a great reputation and excellent facilities. Studying here has been amazing! I found everything I needed to improve my English and make lots of friends.”
The teaching was of very good quality. I also took part in activities such as Gaelic games, museum tours and conversation classes. While on the weekends I went on day trips to Galway, Greystones and Malahide.”
I joined the DCU social activities, such as conversation classes, games, trips to different landmarks and so on. I saw beautiful scenery that I'd never seen before. By joining the social activities, I could improve my speaking skills and make lots of new friends.”
At the end of my two weeks' experience in DCU, I was surprised by my confidence and fluency. I am happy I came here. It was a wonderful experience that opened my mind and made me even more motivated to travel and continue learning English.”
In my career, this experience will be a great advantage: I can say that I've studied in a university like DCU and that I can speak English. In the future, this is going to help so much in getting a good position in a good company.”
''All teachers that I’ve had so far were great! There is a friendly atmosphere in classes, students feel comfortable to speak and exchange with them. I met amazing friends from all over the world. All students have different accents and I got used to them, it’s a good thing to know them. I also went to some trips organised by DCU Language Services on the week end and I was very satisfied with every trip that I’ve been to. The price is less expensive than trips organised by a tour operator, I had great time with my friends and I also learnt things about Irish history. I really enjoy the DCU campus. I spent most of my days there. There are lots of facilities! I have lunch there, I relax and have a drink with my friends at the DCU bar, and I also go to the gym. That’s a really good thing that there is a Gym sport centre since I go there almost everyday, the machines are brand new and the price is really reasonable. And there is a bus stop just next to DCU so it is really convenient to go to the city centre or somewhere else.”
DCU is really the perfect place for students. The campus is great and includes a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurant, hair salon and great music room.”
I am happy and satisfied with every cent that I invested in my education. I highly recommend this institution and for sure will use their services again in the future!”
''I was excited to come in Dublin but I was also worried. It is a bit scary to arrive in a completely different country from where you live. I didn’t know where to live because it is complicated to find an accommodation when you don’t live in the country. For these reasons I decided to live with a Host family provided by DCU Language Services for the first 3 weeks, the time for me to find another accommodation for the rest of my stay in Dublin. The family was a couple with two kids and I got along really well with them. We exchanged a lot about our countries and culture, especially about food and music. They were really helpful; they gave me a lot of advice and tips on the places to go and visit, the good neighbourhoods to live in… The location was perfect since the house was located 5 minutes by walk from DCU. The mother cooked really well and she was open-minded, she wanted to know what I liked and didn’t like. As I love to cook, I cooked for them Brazilian dishes as well. They told me I could come back and live with them if I had any problem with my new accommodation. I eventually found another accommodation in a flat share and everything is fine but I will see them again to have dinner”
''The classes are way different from those I have attended at school in France. In DCU, the courses are really more interactive and less theoretical than in France. In my country you basically learn vocabulary but you don’t practice your speaking, so you easily forget what you have learnt. In France when you don’t know a word you ask for it in French and you speak in French with your classmates, but here people come from all over the world and they don’t speak the same language as you, so you have no choice but to speak English. I have to say that at the beginning it was a bit hard, but the more it goes on and the more I improve myself, it’s a shame I have to leave! The campus is really nice; you always hang out with foreign students from DCU so you speak English all the time, not only during lessons.”
''When I came to DCU all I wanted was to learn how to speak English fluently, and I did: last week I’ve finally moved from upper-intermediate class to advanced class! My host family is amazing and open-minded and the teachers are great, but what I love the most about DCU is that I can hang out with a lot of international people: I’ve learned not only English, but also Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and even Korean. At the beginning I was a bit shy, it was strange to meet all these people from different countries, but now I have a lot of friends from all over the world. Thanks to DCU we travelled a lot together: we went to Wicklow, Cork, Connemara, Galway… When you travel you discover different cultures, languages, and political and social environments: I’m more mature now, I feel I’ve grown up. Now I want to travel more: maybe I’ll study in Germany or in Australia, but I want to go to Japan and Italy as well, to see again my friends and learn their languages. I have a lot of good memories of Ireland and DCU, and I will miss every person I’ve met.”
''I have found my experience so far to be good. The teachers are of a high level, there are excellent facilities, and I get on well with my classmates.”
''I went to Dublin for 3 weeks with two aims, to travel and to improve my English. I stayed with a host family who were very friendly and made me feel comfortable immediately. Everything was so easy and well organized at DCU. My teacher and classmates were very funny and friendly. I found talking about all the different cultures including Brazilian, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Irish very interesting. After class, I had free time and was able to go sightseeing in Dublin or go to the pub with friends. One of the highlights for me was visiting the Cliffs of Moher. Another highlight was watching a Hurling game. I was very impressed with it as it is the fastest field sport of the world. I really enjoyed my time in Ireland and DCU and I would love to come back for a longer length of time.”
''When I started studying at DCU, I was shy and very nervous and could not communicate with other people very well. All of the teachers were very supportive and the people of Dublin were really friendly too. I got used to Dublin very quickly! The classes were great and I could feel myself improving immediately. My speaking skills greatly improved and I noticed a big difference in my ability. Also, I loved making friends with people from all over the world and exploring different cultures. I enjoyed the facilities at DCU and often stayed on campus after class and went to library to study or to the Helix to chat with my friends. I really enjoyed the activities and day trips organised by DCU. I was able to travel all over Ireland at a much cheaper price than if I organised the trips myself. I strongly recommend DCU if you want to study English.”
''I think it is an amazing experience so far! It challenges me in ways that are exciting. I would not change anything.”
''I’m a journalist in Venezuela and it’s good for my job to speak English so I decided to come here to learn English. I think that DCU Language Services is a really good English School. The teachers are really experienced. I really like my class, it is dynamic, and there is a great interaction between the teacher and the students. Before coming here, I didn’t know anything about English and I didn’t understand anybody. Two months have passed and my English improved, but I still need to work on it! I live in a host family and I love them, they are really friendly with me. And I met a lot of people coming from different countries, everybody is so friendly here!”
''I come from a country quite far from Ireland, and when I arrived here after a long journey I was a bit afraid and I didn’t know anybody. But since I arrived everybody has been really welcoming with me and I quickly felt comfortable at DCU. I’ve been here for a month and a half and now it's like my second home! I live with a host family that they provided to me, I get along well with this family and the house is located 5 minutes by walk from DCU so it’s perfect! I also really like the campus, there are nice places to eat and have a drink with your friends, do some sport, and so on… It’s a great place to meet people from all over the world! I joined several trips organised by DCU to go to Corks, the Cliffs of Moher… It’s great that they do this because it encourages the students to travel around Ireland and it is a good opportunity to meet other international students from DCU.”
''I studied in DCU for one month. The environment in DCU was excellent. I made a lot of new friends and we still keep in touch. My teacher’s name was Karol. He was really nice and funny. I found the conversation and cv classes to be fantastic. I lived with a great host mother named Geraldine. She was so kind, caring, treated me like her daughter. I always told her that she was my Irish mom. I enjoyed the time that we spent together. I really miss everything about DCU.”
''I absolutely love everything here. English is taught very well and there is a nice diversity in the classroom. I also love it here in Ireland!”
''I came to Ireland for one week with my friend. The primary objective was to improve my speaking skills as I hadn’t practiced for a number of years. I also wanted to learn more about the Irish culture. The environment in DCU was excellent. Our teacher Collette was friendly, supportive and intelligent. I made new friends from all over the world. I went on some trips organised by DCU Language Services and I really enjoyed them! I stayed in a hotel in the heart of Dublin city. All of the best places of interest – Trinity College and St. Patrick Cathedral - were within walking distance from the hotel. It was great! I am planning to do another course in DCU this Winter.”
''I took an IELTS preparation course in DCU for 6 weeks. I enjoyed every single day of it. The classes were informative, interactive, well-structured and fun at the same time. We had plenty of opportunities to practice our English thanks to the small class sizes. We learnt a lot about different cultures while preparing for the speaking part of the IELTS test. We read a great volume of academic literature and interesting science news to prepare for the reading part of the IELTS exam. The homework structure was well balanced and those who requested more were provided with additional material to study at home. All in all, this course was an amazing experience. I had an excellent teacher and nice classmates from all over the world. I will never forget them. As a result, I passed my IELTS exam with a great score and got access to third level education here in Ireland.”
''I liked it a lot. I loved my classmates and my teacher was so funny! Good experience over all.”
''I am enjoying my experience in the DCU studying English, going to the class and meeting people from all the world.”
