Host Family Accommodation – Policy for Student Holidays – Effective 01/01/2023
DCU IA understands that long term students may wish to take holidays from their host family accommodation from time to time. This is acceptable to DCU, subject to the following conditions:
- The dates of the proposed holiday must be acceptable to DCU, the Host Family, the student (and the student’s sending institution or funding body)
- The student must communicate their intended holiday dates to DCU at least 4 weeks before the proposed holiday.
- Where the student wishes to leave their belongings at the Host Family, no refund is possible. This is because the Host Family may seek to offer the bedroom to another student during the period of student holiday.
- A refund is not possible where the proposed holiday is 14 nights or less. This is to ensure that the host family is not left out of pocket as a result of the absence of the student.
- A refund may be possible where the student proposed holiday is more than 15 nights, provided that the host family is able to secure an alternative student to the vacant bedroom for the period of student holiday.
