Japanese Ambassador Visits Dublin City University Ahead of Expo 2025

May 2nd, 2025 english
On Thursday, April 24th, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Japanese Ambassador, Junji Shimada, to Dublin City University (DCU). The Ambassador was introduced to DCU President Daire Keogh and our English Language students from Japan, many of whom are enrolled in the DCU International Academy’s Academic Year Programme to improve their English proficiency. The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for deepening academic partnerships and student exchange between Japan and Ireland, while also commemorating the upcoming World Expo 2025.
Japanese undergraduate students choose DCU’s International Academy for their English language studies, and the university is also home to a vibrant and long-standing Japanese Students’ Society.
Adding a touch of fun and colour to the day was MYAKU-MYAKU, the official mascot of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. This friendly and vibrant character created a memorable moment for our students and official representatives. Expo 2025 is an upcoming World Expo set to take place from April 13th to October 13th, 2025, on Yumeshima Island in Osaka.
Centered around the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives,’ the Expo aims to bring together nations to explore solutions for global challenges such as health, sustainability, and technology. Presented by 150 countries and 25 international organisations, the Expo will feature initiatives aimed at creating a future society for our lives.
