Whether you need a visa to travel to Ireland depends on your nationality and the length of your stay.
You do not need a visa to enter Ireland if you are:
-
A citizen of a country within the European Union (EU)
-
A citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) (EU countries plus Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein)
-
A citizen of Switzerland
If you are from one of the above countries, you do not need a visa to enter Ireland. However, you should travel with a valid passport or national identity card.
You may need a visa to enter Ireland if you are:
-
A citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland
Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality and the purpose and duration of your stay (e.g. short-term study, long-term study, tourism, etc.). It is your responsibility to check whether you require a visa before travelling.
If you do require a visa, you must apply in advance through the Irish Immigration Service and receive approval before travelling to Ireland.
Important Notes
-
Visa requirements can change, so please check the official Irish Immigration website for the most up-to-date information.
-
Even if you do not need a visa, you may be asked to provide supporting documentation at immigration (such as proof of course enrollment, accommodation details, return flight, and evidence of sufficient funds).
-
A visa (where required) allows you to travel to Ireland but does not automatically guarantee entry. Final permission to enter is granted by an immigration officer on arrival.
Once course fees have been paid, DCUIA will provide documents you can use to apply for an Irish visa.
