Our IELTS Exam Preparation Programme prepares international students to sit the IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training examinations.
Our programme is an intensive 8 week module, and attending students will sit their IELTS examination at DCU at the end of their programme (DCU is an IELTS examination centre).
Summary Information
- Master the skills required for success in IELTS, including speed reading, pinpointing the exact method of responding to different types of written tasks and deriving the meaning of complex vocabulary from contextual clues in highly formal reading texts.
- You will prepare for an exam which is accepted world-wide for the purposes of employment, immigration and university enrolment.
- Tuition is 20 hours per week – from 09.00-13.00hrs Mondays to Fridays.
- Minimum age of attendance is 17 years.
- Participants can join the DCU Social Activity Programme in afternoons.

What Will The Course Offer Me?
- Specific focus on the full range of English skills (formal, academic and technical vocabulary and grammar in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening) and IELTS exam techniques (note taking, speed reading and understanding complex vocabulary from context, among others).
- Constant exam preparation under teacher supervision, with regular focused exam practice with authentic exam papers under real-life exam conditions in order to apply techniques and strategies.
- The support of teachers with high levels of IELTS exam preparation experience.
Who Should Attend This Programme?
This course is recommended for students who:
- Require official certification of English ability for the purpose of acquiring a visa for work, study or residency.
- Require official certification of their English ability for the purpose of enrolment onto an undergraduate or postgraduate study programme.
- Are considering taking up employment in an English–speaking country.
Internationalisation
We receive students from around the world to our IELTS Programme., including from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Europe, Middle East, China, Japan and Korea.
In addition, international students can also join DCU Clubs & Societies, which will provide social interaction opportunities with DCU Bachelors and Masters students.

Accommodation
DCU can arrange Host Family or Student Residence accommodation, either for full programme duration or for a shorter period. If you wish to book accommodation with us, please indicate this on your online application.
Please note: residence accommodation is available from 10/05/2026 to 29/08/2026 only. Host Family accommodation is available year-round.
